This conference will consist of two Plenary Sessions and two PANEL Sessions each day with a Keynote Address in the evening of the first day. This FUTURES SUMMIT will provide a contemporary approach to sharing knowledge and practices among people who are working towards building sustainable communities and businesses. While we will have many knowledgeable speakers, there will be ample opportunity in each session for attendees to offer their viewpoints and share as much of their experience as possible in two days in a relaxed but dynamic setting.

The Plenary Sessions will bring all attendees together to hear a presentation on four topics:

  • Development of the Finger Lakes Region Sustainability Plan
  • Status of the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Plan
  • ECO Districts – What are they and How to start one; and
  • Mayoral Perspectives on Sustainability.

The Keynote Address will be by James Howard Kunstler, the author of The Geography of Nowhere. He will discuss how “we created a landscape of scary places, and we became a nation of scary people.”

The PANEL Sessions will have three concurrent tracks from which attendees can choose. Topics include these aspects of sustainability:

  • Social Responsibility
  • Agriculture, Energy
